Highly recommendable”

I really enjoyed my stay in this guesthouse. The owner speaks English and really hospitable. It was easy to find this guesthouse as they have a clear signboard and that time I saw Jiro the white Shiba dog sitting on the glass window. He's really friendly! The place was really cozy and the breakfast was sumptuous with great variety. The miso soup was hearty and warm like the place itself. I wish I could stay longer but definitely would stay here again when I go back to Kyoto. The owner also had a free onsen trip at some nights for the guests. The rooms were clean and the bed was comfy, I stayed at the dorms with the garden view. The toilet and shower room were also good. You can also leave your luggage before and after checking out but no lockers they will just keep it at the reception but that was okay for me. They also have a common area on the 2nd floor which was nice. This place gives you that homestay experience therefore you will just feel right at home with Jiro-chan!

Homey, Comfortable, Cozy Stay”

Staying here felt like staying at my aunty and uncles house. We arrived friday evening, and they were in the middle of their weekly Friday dinner, all you can eat and DRINK for 500¥. We sat around drinking and laughing for hours! Great start to our stay. In the morning we spent walking around the historic section of kyoto, which the hostel is just on the outskirts of it. Be prepared to walk all over kyoto! However the subway is just a 5 minute walk along with two convenient stores across the street. The hostel has two buildings. We were in the 2nd house, which were just 3 rooms. It's a standard japanese house! Super quiet. The staff was awesome especially Miwa :) the complimentary breakfast was awesome too. Amazing value!

They offer very nice buffet breakfast and this Japanese style accommodation is something different and sleeping on futons for a change! Extremely chill and courteous towards all travellers. Amazing and interesting travellers come and go, which is great. Keep up the good work!

Fantastic staff, fabulous breakfast & the cutest puppy ever!!”

Pros: Public Transport nearby Walking distance to all of the main attractions in the Higashiyama area Cozy dorm room (with heater for cold weather) Amazing breakfast buffet (tea, coffee, juice, bread w/jam, butter, honey, donuts, sweet & savory rolls, gorgeous assortment of fresh fruit (persimmon, pear, pineapple, grapes, kiwi, banana, strawberry & citrus), scrambled egg & sliced tomato with cheese. BEST Hostel breakfast in Japan!! The owner & his staff are so kind..... they treated me like family both days I stayed with them. (Thank you again for the invitation to dinner...... it was incredibly delicious both nights!!) Last, but definitely not least, the Shiba-Ken puppy Giro is the cutest thing ever. Agoda should set it up so we can attach photos to our reviews. I have some good ones to post of this amazing Guesthouse. :-) Cons: ZERO Bottom Line: You should definitely book here while visiting Kyoto!

Definitely a great place to stay when in Kyoto. Ichiro's curry is deliciously great! The food they serve is always abundant and prepared thoughtfully. Everything is delicious. The staff are very helpful and accommodating. It's a very homey, warm and intimate place. At 9pm, Ichiro will bring you to the local sento for free! The warm and hot waters of a sento will drain away all the aches from a day of walking around Kyoto. And you should meet the house mascot, Hiro the dog!

Good hospitality”

Really good place to stay. Close to station and bus stop. There's Heian Shrine nearby, which I didn't visit yet because I visited other places... 3 nights were surely not enough for me to discover Kyoto. I found this place because Jiro the dog was sitting on a display and I stopped to look at him. Miwa-san, Owner-san and the staffs are really friendly and make you feel at home. I suggest to spend nights during weekends because they have house party at Friday and free Sento tour on some days every week.

Solo Traveller - ”

I was a solo female traveller and the guest house was a safe and good place to stay. There's a 7-11 opposite and it's close to the many shrines and temples. The couple running this place were really friendly and allowed me to stay in the mixed dorm, which I felt was more spacious (the female dorm was more private and felt stuffy). Breakfast's great and there's option to pay for dinner. They have onsen nights if you would like to join and other activities (i.e. matcha sushi night - may have to pay). Overall a great experience!

Everything about my stay was exceptional. The environment, the staff, the cleanliness, the location, and the food - each exceeded my expectations. Within walking distance to many attractions as well as very close to subway and bus stops. Incredible home cooked dinners (for a very affordable price) and FREE amazing breakfast. Clean rooms and showers. Very helpful and kind staff. I never felt uncomfortable or awkward, just very cozy. Wish I could have spent more time here. Thank you for such a nice stay in Kyoto!

Homey”

If you find a place where you want to feel like home, Ga-Jyun guest house is the perfect choice. I arrived in the morning, when the check in time isn't available yet. But the staff offering breakfast to me. The one that I haven't paid for. The host are very friendly. The shortage is because this kind of old house that the floor is squeking everytime you walk around & the room is kind of cold (because the weather) that make it little bit smelly like wet rug. But the bed is good, it's warm & nice & the breakfast is ultimate. Btw, I did a big mistake by offering food to their dog, Jiro, which is a big, big mistake. So, I'd like to say sorry to Ga-Jyun's host, hopefully they'll accept it with a big heart.
