Upon our first night of arrival, the check in was smooth as we came around 9pm. The room was clean and spacious. One worse thing was the shower! Only hot water came out and my kid was full of shampoo and complained of no cold water. It is literally boiling water running down from shower. The first night was disastrous but we were all too tired. The next morning we asked the reception staff about the shower water. She said it’s very common as Penang is hot but I was puzzled. We’ve been to KL, Bangkok & Singapore and no boiling shower water from any of the hotels. We came back to the hotel full of sweats in the late afternoon at 4:30pm and wanted to have a shower. I tested the water again and it was burning hot. We called the reception again and requested the maintenance team to further investigate. Finally after 30 minutes, we needed to move to another room. The repairer told us to pack and in 5 minutes we would get our room change and it was around 5:30pm. We had a dinner gathering arranged at 6:00pm but still did not get a room change until 6:30pm. At first one staff informed us that another room was under inspection and would transfer us immediately after completion. Then after 10 minutes, we were still being unattended. My kid just wanted a shower. Finally, the last call with another staff was to ask us to return after dinner for room change. We were all very disappointed and miserable without a shower at dinner. We finally ended up waiting at our room again for another 20 minutes before moving to our new room that night. The shower water finally came normal. It was overall pleasant for the next few nights at Eastin.

The staff at Eastin was very accommodating and even allowed us to check in early. Room size is alright, the bathroom is ok. It’s also relatively clean. Even gave us some mandarin oranges for the lunar new year. Complimentary drinks and snacks in the bar fridge is also a nice touch. There is a bit of a smell in the room (might be ozone, might be sweat), but you won’t notice it after 5 minutes. Location is amazing as always. Pretty much anything you need within walking distance. It’s also relatively close to the airport.
