"Mostly pros from me. I found the staff to be friendly, attentive and helpful from the start. Our room was lovely and had everything we needed. I opted to bring my port-a-cot but they can provide them for just $15. The beach is right across the road and there is an IGA in the same complex as well as some lovely restaurants nearby so you really don’t need to leave Shoal Bay. The only complaint I have is that they recently moved the cafe and it’s still not finished (which is fine). The issue is that it’s connected to a beer garden attached to the pub and bar. The beer garden allows smoking so while we were eating breakfast we could smell the cigarette smoke which was very off-putting"

"oaks pacific blue is a good base for your stay in port stephens. not sure about public transport, but the hotel is a short drive away (10-20 mins) from most key sightseeing spots and activities. it is also right across a shopping mall - very convenient. the room was fantastic and great value for money (it seemed to be off peak period in port stephens during june / winter when we visited). if there was one minor flaw, it was the lack of complementary wifi in the hotel, but this seemed to be the norm in most hotels in nsw / sydney where we have visited. "We spent 2 nights there over the Australia long weekend.. I think we paid about $170+ for a budget cabin. Not sure if the price is reasonable. This place is great. The beach is beautiful! I do not recommend if you want to camp there as they are a lot of permanent residence. Some sites can be between 2 cabins. I wish they can update the pool a little. There is only one small slide and it's quite old. The only down side is there is NO phone coverage. We are with Optus, Vodafone and Telstra. Can't get even a bar most of the time. They only give 150MB (or was it 180MB) a day as a complimentary. I will return for the beach!"

"Looking for a place in Port Stephens where 3 generations of our family could meet up and relax together during the Christmas-New Year period, I found The Anchorage on the internet and it looked like the ideal answer: no-one would have to cook (the breakfast, which was included, was wonderful) and we could all enjoy being near the water in a beautiful location. I booked 3 rooms which were quite spacious and located side by side. The pool and nearby playground entertained the 3 pre-schoolers, and several of the adults were able to indulge in a very good massage and spa treatment. All of us had a wonderful time there."
