Darwin hotels & places to stay

I've thoroughly enjoyed my time spent living here (waaay longer than anticipated), and have since made heaps of good memories + countless friends. The place has this sort of communal, anarcho-squathouse type vibe to it, which I enjoy. Biggest complaint is the abject lack of ventilation in (some of) the bathrooms/showers (total sweat-fest)... There also seems to be no system in place for distinguishing the various rags from one another in the kitchen (can i dry my hands/dishes with this, or did somebody else use it to clean up some nasty-ass salmonella chicken juices off the floor??)... All in all, a good place. Feels like home :)

Definitely recommend staying here, the hostel is very clean and the beds are comfy and AC works well. The best part about the hostel is the staff and friendly atmosphere. Everyone was so friendly and sometimes all make dinner together and have drinks outside. No bar in the place which means you can save money buying drinks at the supermarket. Also lots of fridges for food and enough crockery to use for free. Perfectly placed as short walk to the Mindel beach and not too far to the waterfront. Darwin is such a small town everything is walkable. Staff can also organise airport shuttle and have info about local tours to national parks. If you like fun- you will like this hostel!

Unfortunately didnt get to stay here as it was temporary closed for renovation. Was surprised and puzzled for a while upon arriivinh at the hostel. However, was diverted to Youth Shack down the road. Staff were genuinely friendly and helpful. Check in was at ease. I rented a bath towel and it was worthy as clean and comfy. Crowd was cool. Impressed with the room condition; in yerms of hygiene, structure and facilities. The hostel provided free breakfast but didn’t get to try it. Perhaps could consider extending the breakfast hour. Would definitely stay here again if I make a return trip to Darwin.

Being very disappointed in another Darwin hostel before, I decided to give the (slightly more expensive) YHA a shot. I am very happy I did so, as it was definitely worth the extra money. Staff is super nice - I unfortunately didn't ask her name, but the lady with the black hair with a short fringe who checked me in on the 29th, you are so sweet and helpful!! Luggage room is great with lockers instead of the usual mess. Rooms are clean and set up nicely. Big lockers in the room. Beautiful common area with clean pool and lots of tables. Great location in the centre. Good kitchen which stays relatively clean with everyone having to borrow cutlery sets from the reception. Yay!!! :-)

This hotel is centrally located in the heart of Darwin. There are many restaurants, bars around the hotel as well as shopping center, coles.You can also find many tourist agencies. It's easy to check in and check out. A tall guy at the reception is friendly&helpful. When I forgot a keygard and ask him for help, he didn't hesitate to unlock a room for me. My room is quiet eventhough a number of pubs and bars are around.

Everything was good about this Hotel, amenities, staff, restaurant and price. As with many other reviews for this hotel you do need to allow for the fact that it is a popular hotel in Darwin and as is not uncommon in Darwin, it has open air drinking/eating facilities with music. When crowded the chatter and laughter gets louder, all usual stuff. Just be warned and do as I did, take good earplugs for when you do need to sleep.Oh one more thing, the servicing of the rooms is a bit adhoc and inconsistent, you may have to request fresh towels or tea/coffee etc.

We stayed with older child. Two double beds in huge room with modern quiet aircon and digital TV with foxtel. Fridge and kettle and clean hot shower. Free wifi was good but occasionally drop out depending on which room you in. The downstairs restaurant has excellent meals and great prices. The bar has also some bbq on Thursday/Friday/Saturday afternoon when exotic female dancers preform. This is the only time the place gets crowded with local workers. Really good people and staff. Friendly and helpful. We had a vehicle so it was easy location and we preferred it than the noise of downtown. Secure parking out front. Security cameras at all entrances and in hallway. If you dont have transport there is bus service on stuart highway only few hundred meters away. Lots small shops near by for meals. But they also provided free breakfast of toast and ceral and juice. Definitely stay again. Oh. And the pub seems to shut at 11pm. So there isn't any late night noise.

Amazing and comfortable stay in Coconut Grove Holiday Apartments. Its better apart hotel In Darwin. very comfortable rooms, some have kitchenette. With good internet, all kitchen stuff, parking place with option - free car wash, laundry and dry room. Close to airport, 10 minutes by car. Coles an Woolforth is 10 minutes drive. We stay here 3 nights, two times and will stay here next our business in Darwin. the manager upgraded our apartment to the best and saved our mail, thank you! Highly recommend.

Really enjoyed my 7 night stay at H on Mitchell! It’s a 10 min walk to the city centre. Lovely location opposite the Darwin waterfront (The Esplanade) where you can see the mangroves and blue water. I stayed 6 nights in a one bedroom apartment and one night in a studio room. I wasn’t happy when I checked in as the phone wasn’t working, the balcony door wouldn’t lock, linen had some stains on it, key card wouldn’t work, the light fixture was hanging out of the bedroom lamp and the appliances such as the rubbish bins, dish rack and toilet brush were extremely rusted. HOWEVER, the staff did replace most of the rusted appliances 4 days into my stay. What turned my experience around was that I had to go to hospital and the staff were wonderful in helping me arrange an extra nights stay, helping me move rooms and guiding me to the closest medical centre. The staff explained that the Darwin humidity makes bins and appliances rust and that they’re planning to replace all the stainless steel items. The actual building is lovely - light and airy, great atmosphere, small undercover pool and nice restaurant. There is a bar downstairs as well. Once everything was fixed in the room, it was great. The phone didn’t work for the duration of my stay, which was a pain, but I called reception using my mobile. Would visit again.

We were supposed to stay with Darwin friends upon arrival on a red eye from Bali and 20 hours of travel...but they had to go to Perth! I booked through Agoda and rang the hotel to ask for an early check-in, explaining our desire to put head to pillow well before 2pm. No problem they said, and organised housekeeping to clean our room first...ready at 10am. Once we arrived, the reception staff were professional, friendly and welcoming. The rooms are clean and it's a brand new hotel right in the heart of the city. We will be staying there again next week on our way back to Bali. Thank you and see you then! Jay & Bella

We had stayed at Luma Luma previously, so when we decided to spend five days in Darwin we wanted a place that offered facilities for some self-catering. We stayed in one of the studio apartments with a decently equipped kitchenette which was perfect for us. The place is perfect for sightseeing as it is easy walking distance to all attractions, restaurants, shops, cafes, bars, etc., and not far from the popular waterfront precinct. We hired a car for one day's touring around out of Darwin and appreciated the guest carpark. Visiting Darwin in the middle of summer also meant we used the pool a few times and the BBQ in the pool area was terrific for a couple of easy dinners for us. The staff are super friendly and each day when we returned from walking the city our room was spotlessly clean with all tea and coffee replenished and fresh towels etc. When we visit Darwin again, we will definitely stay at Luma Luma. There are newer hotels in Darwin, but the self-catering facilities make this one unbeatable value.

We had a difficult time finding a hotel in Darwin that fit our family for that night. We had a late flight in and there was not good communication with hotel on our late arrival (area to put in special info on booking would be great). This B & B is designed for fishing expeditions, which we did not realize upon booking. Owner was not informed of the late arrival and he was less than impressed as he had an early fishing trip. He had sent an email to me, but I had not yet received it prior to calling him. After getting room we were informed that he was leaving at 4am on a fishing trip and no one would be around. Breakfast room was on your own with what was there and you were expected to clean up after yourselves. Our room was very large which was great with the 3 kids. Everyone had their own bed, always a bonus. Unfortunately the room had not been fully cleaned, there was trash in the bin and items in the fridge from the previous guests and the bath rugs were just tossed in the shower and were very dirty. The larger bed's mattress was awful and the pillows were as well. We did not sleep well. Smaller beds seemed to have better mattresses. Breakfast was available in the room, but left a bit to be desired. Overall this is a good place if you are on one of the booked fishing trips (which I understand are EXCELLENT!), but I do not recommend for families, and I felt it was overpriced for the room that we had.

I've stayed twice at this hotel. The first was in a 'city view' room on level 3. All good. Spacious, clean and quiet. I think I got it a bit cheaper than normal so it was good value for money. The second time was a few days later in a 'çabana' room next to the pool. This room was in need of a bit of a update with everything appearing to be a bit tired. The bathroom was very small. Had a bit of noise about 10pm with the "lets throw a screaming drunken girl in the pool" scenario which went on for a while but that was about it. Would only recommend this type of room if you were a smoker wanting to take advantage of being able to go and sit outside you room. Great view from the rooftop dining area at sunset but like much of this hotels appearance it's a bit tired and could do with a bit of an update. The food was surprisingly good, buffet style from the trusty Bain Marie. I've stayed in quite a few Darwin Hotels over the years and this is fairly standard of the choice without paying a ridiculous price. The laid back, easy going Territory style can often be used an excuse for poor service and quality in Darwin hotels but however after my couple nights stay I'd recommend this place. Agoda did have the best price, quite a bit cheaper than some other offerings.

Club Tropical is a lovely resort hidden in the suburbs of Darwin. It probably doesn’t get the recognition it deserves because it’s location isn’t in the city and therefore, people are missing out on its peacefulness. It is modern, has a great big pool that the kids loved, and has a restaurant on the site. I’ll be coming back here and will probably make it our go to hotel as it is close to family and friends. Great for families!!!

As anyone to travels to Darwin knows, planes get into Darwin at terrible times! We live a 12 hour drive from Darwin, so we need a hotel to rest up as every flight travels overnight and arrives at 4-6am. Hotels will not let you check in at 5am, not unless you pay for two nights. We went on a whim to the travelodge and we got a room at 5am for under $100, and only had to pay an extra $40 for early check in. In the past we have paid anywhere from $60-$130 for this. The guy at the front desk was really nice, quick and accommodating. The rooms are very basic, but to tell you the truth I was just happy for a place to put my head down. The location is great, not on the main drag, but right across the street from Coles, there is a pool and restaurant should you need it as well.

The leoom was modern ran with an excellent bathroom with large shower. The double bed was firm and great for sinking into slumberland. The smorgasbord has a great range of tasty seafoods, pasta, meats and desserts ... The staff were courteous and helpful from the reception, to the restaurant staff and to the housekeeping personnel. It's a Hotel that we would definitely stay again as everything ran so smootky .. A magic time in a modern city ... A great central location with ample parking ... An inviting swimming pool which we didn't use and will stay at the H Hotel when next in Darwin ... Enjoy your stay ...

This was our first stop in Darwin after travelling there on The Ghan from Adelaide. After a short hiccup of trying to find our booking; we found the staff to be most helpful going the extra mile of upgrading us into a better accommodation than we had booked. The staff on duty also helped us with our "pick up" for the next morning from Viator tours as we were cut off on the phone to them when we tried to call them. A recording came on to say that the office was closed. The staff on duty was exceptional in calling them and sorting our problem and organizing for us to be picked up from the Hotel. They were wonderful!!

Fortunately the cabin was far superior to the staff. Why a company would put so much expenditure into a venture like this and no effort into staff is beyond my comprehension. Darwin, like most mining towns will have a life span and if someone hasn't done something about the reception staff and management at this park before then it will be empty. We arrived expecting to learn something about the park and possibly something about Darwin, not here. No one else in the reception when we arrived so there was no pressure and we got the following. Hello, have you got a booking, good, here is your key and boom gate code, this is where your cabin is. My wife went back a few days later to ask for the code to the laundry near our cabin, different staff, worse attitude. Where are you staying, that laundry is for the corporates and you can't use it, use the other one. On principal didn't use park laundry. The cleaning staff were cleaning across from our cabin, they could be polite and say hello, even the young bloke blowing down around the cabins who didn't look very happy at all could smile when I spoke to him. After a week the cleaners serviced our room and it was a credit to them, spotless. After 10 nights we packed up at 9.30am and left, when my wife handed in the key there were 3 staff in the office and her, one of them looked up and said next. Would it be too hard to say, hello, could I help you. The next statement was, is your account paid, Jude said yes it is, good was the reply. No simple words like, did you enjoy your stay, we hope to see you again if you are in Darwin, have a nice day, tell your friends about us. Why would that be too hard!! Maybe the Discovery directors could get Basil Faulty to upgrade their staff. The management should look in the mirror because the poor performance from staff starts with them.

First time with Mercure, , had no idea when we booked what it would be like, was pleasantly surprised of the lovely first impression when pulling up to book in ... We felt we were in Bali... Great experience and would recommend this hotel and will certainly go back when visiting Darwin in the future..F fabulous staff and Accommodation and the food was to die for .. definitely 5*****
