Where to stay in Canberra
Canberra hotels & accommodations
I came to Canberra in the N.S.W school holidays with my two children. I wanted to bring them Canberra for a few days to visit Questacon, Parliament House and the Zoo. I needed affordable accommodation with a kitchen in it because it was cold at night and I didn't want to be dragging the kids all over Canberra looking for places to eat. The accommodation was affordable ...
I like Abode Woden as the rooms are comfortable and provide a few extra facilities to a standard hotel room. Also I drove to Canberra, so having a car park directly across the road was a huge benefit. This was my second stay at Abode Woden and I will stay there again if I need to return to Canberra.
Amazing style but not just for looks; it works and is very comfortable which is the whole point right? Such a friendly vibe too which is important in places which might otherwise seem too cool for school. Staff were brilliant. Aesop amenities topped it off. Like all hotels in Canberra it’s not cheap. Still worth it - can’t fault a thing. I read some reviews complaini...
I very much appreciated my stay at the Statesmen as I was in Canberra to be with my daughter who was having surgery at the hospital just down the road. The hotel is almost attached to a small set of shops that has everything that is needed in regards to basic needs. :) The Coles supermarket and the coffee shops were very useful. The hotel was very comfortable and quiet...
This was a really lovely hotel, we recently stayed at a 5 star rated hotel in Canberra and it was no where near as lovely as the QT. The QT has fantastic facilities, really unique decorations and the bed was so comfortable. Lovely staff gave us late check out We will definitely stay here again. I loved it. Only one thing I would change and that would be total bock out...
Arriving in the morning we were greeted with a smile and felt welcomed. Easy check in, easy taking care of storing our luggage. When we returned early in the afternoon, a coffee made the wait for the room to be finished shorter - need to mention WE were earlier then check in time, so this was a nice touch after they rushed to catch up after a busy weekend. Great staff...
The hotel has been beautifully refurbished with an eye for detail. I travelled with my husband and two young children (2 & 4 yo). We were made to feel very welcome. The rooms were beautifully warm, in contrast to the Canberra winter outside. Children (under 12) eat free at breakfast, which was a nice surprise. The only down side was that, far from being neutral, the t...
Was amazing value for money. Got a great deal through Agoda and have recommended it to a colleague who travels to Canberra monthly to stay there as it is great value. Rooms were nice, my missus is hard to please and she'd stay there again... That's saying something. Only thing letting it down is perhaps the food, In room dinning was like we ordered takeout at best. A l...
Very well located, within walking distance of the food hub of Braddon, and also walking distance to Canberra Centre - the two places that seem to be the life of Canberra. A fair bit of variety for food in Braddon - from fast food like McDonalds and Pita Pit, to food trucks, to micro breweries, fancy burger joints etc. The apartment itself was also comfortable and w...
me and my husband checked in at mantra on northbourne hotel in canberra, australia. the reason for our trip is to visit our daughter who is currently studying at anu in canberra. we were very happy with the 1 bedroom apt that we had. the room is nice and clean. the hall is big with a nice dining table and sitting areas. the kitchen is well equip with all the necessary c...
Best hotel in Canberra. Best location. Staff are so friendly and very lovely. Rooms were bigger than I thought. Been to Canberra so many times but don't know why I didn't stay here earlier. Staff so helpful and always greeting guests. I will come here again. Definitely recommend to family and friends.
We needed to stay in Canberra on our way back from a snow trip. We were tired and needed a quick meal and rest. We booked into the motel rooms and they were really clean and well appointed. The best part of the place was the excellent restaurant onsite with a great selection of food (all of it nice). We could get a good meal without going too far. Set in amongst bushla...
Very satisfied with the hotel! We booked Double Studio and stayed for 1 night. We had 2 queen beds. Hotel is very new and is not on GPS yet. GPS led us to Best Western, which is just right beside Abode. Parking was plentiful within hotel compound. Check-in was a breeze and we were located at level 1. They have a porter trolley where guests can use for ease of transport...
It was great, I was searching for a hotel in Canberra, frustrated at the prices most were charging, saw Capital tower reviews and noticed how they were 2 bedroom apartments that were in most cases cheaper than single motel style rooms at hotels in Canberra. I decided to go for this, great price, I knew the location was good, and even a city side view would be nice. On ...
Firstly I want to thank you for your terrific service recently when I managed to change dates a couple of times on a visit to Canberra. You handled it easily and that was so re-assuring. Secondly I wanted to review the Burbury Hotel in Canberra because we had a very pleasant stay in a location that is hard to beat. The Burbury is new and sparklingly clean. Design i...
The hotel is located right across from the airport and a lazy ten-minute dring into the City center of Canberra with mount Ainslie along the way as you drive into Canberra. Few things when booking there is a fee for parking the car of $14 per day I was not informed this when I booked why the hotel or Agoda does not list this n the booking information also we booked a r...
My wife and I ran out of affordable hotel rooms within Canberra city centre for the Easter holiday so we have no choice but to look for alternatives at the city outskirts and finally booked at Abode Hotel Tuggeranong. Tuggeranong, one of the districts of ACT, is 20 Km further south of Canberra. Despite the distance though, it was a good choice, surprisingly. Firstly, ...
'Santa' thought my husband would enjoy the Versailles exhibition, and to top it off, a weekend of indulgence at this lovely historic Canberra hotel. And while he rode up Mt Ainslie I visited the sauna and spa and then lingered over the delicious buffet breakfast....
The hotel is located in a good location which is very close to O’Connor and Canberra City. The room was neat and clean and of an average size. There is a basic well equipped gym which we did not get to use. Easy access to shops down the road in O’Connor. Complimentary Wi-fi was available and all major channels as well as some Foxtel channels were there. Parking faci...
I was indeed surprised by the 10 star Service I received when I arrived at the Hotel. Did I mention 10 Star ? We had a great stay at the capital executive hotel.. Being the first time in Canberra the hotel was well positioned close to the city centre. We were very impressed with the Nesuto in Canberra. We picked it off a website, selected for price and location and both were great. We were a 5 minute walk from Canberra central shopping and eating area. For the price the room was exceptional. It had a full kitchen with oven and dishwasher, and a washer and dryer. My wi-fi kept dropping out, but staff were supportiv...
The Crowne Plaza Canberra Hotel is an extremely well located and well managed serious hotel. There are staff for luggage and carparking. The main central Canberra shopping district is just one block away. The car p...
My stay was very very comforting. Unfortunately things didn't go right in Canberra for me, but it was reassuring to know I had a very nice room, with a spacious bed, large bathroom, two televisions, a nice living area, and very nice construction of the hotel with its seperate wings parting from (but still connected to) the main restraunt and reception building. The car...
hotel has a wow factor. Weekly traveller to Canberra and this hotel is the same level in quality to the 'for now' best hotel in Canberra. Plus it is cheaper, with living area and kitchen. Excellent. Needs a rewards system and you would have my business as preference.
Thanks to the great staff that made our stay as comfortable as possible. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The kitchen appeared well equipped (although we actually didn't end up cooking). The location was perfect for us as we were visiting relatives in the area. Will definitely return here for our next stay in Canberra :-)

Cheap places to stay in Canberra
I had a work trip in Canberra and found it difficult to book accomodation close to the office. This was my first time staying in a hostel but I’d definitely stay again. No iron in the room but there are communal facilities downstairs to do iron t...
Family stay to visit son attending Uni was great fun. Booked a 2 bedroom apartment & it was perfect for us. As always, neat & clean and the staff are very helpful.
The reception was friendly and advised us about shopping and sightseeing in Canberra. The rooms were compact but with a practical layout to ensure a comfortable stay. The room was equipped with LCD TV and coffee/tea maker. The location of the hotel is ideal for travelers entering the city from the north (Sydney). The sights of Canberra are only a few km away. My husband and I drove down to Canberra for the Truffle Hunt over the weekend. We wanted to stay somewhere that was big and open with free parking as a bonus. The original fittings and furnishing took me back to my dorm days and the folder information described how the ANU were preserving the original building and rooms. Location quiet and easy access to Canberra attractions. The setting gave a sense of academia. We were there during term holidays so not sure what the noise levels would be with all students in attendance. ...
Hotels in Canberra are rather overpriced, so if you are not a spendthrift and just need a room for a good night's sleep, then this motel is to be highly recommended. It is in the northern edge of Canberra, in a quiet spot in Watson, even though it is just off the Federal Hwy (which becomes Northbourne Ave). We had 3 nights there and slept in every morning. There is ...

Very central for the National Museum of Australia exhibitions, and we found the accommodation easily thanks to the email which I received a few days before our departure. I was impressed by the voice mail left on my phone reminding me to download this info and the prompt follow up after we left the site regarding a message I'd left on the check-in card left in the ro...
Booked on the day we arrived and rooms were really cheap in comparison to other hotels in Canberra so we weren't sure what to expect. However we Really liked this place. Beds were comfy, rooms were big. Everything was nice and clean and staff were great. Would def stay here again :)
What a great place to stay. We had family also staying here and common area was fantastic to meet up at and use the bbq’s. Plenty of safe area for the kids to play and run around. Over all a very positive stay and definitely recommend to all visiting Canberra
old canberra icon beautifully restored. rooms very comfortable and clean. fantastic staff. hotel is within easy walking distance of canberra centre and many restaurants. we ate one night in the hotel bistro as restaurant isn't open on sunday. food was ok and reasonably priced. however, staff allowed a number of children to run riot without asking the parents to ke...

I had a very comfortable stay at the Diamant Hotel and have already recommended it to family members. we were worried that Canberra might be too cold for our little one and our parents, forecast to be -5 degree that day, worry not to my suprise the unit that were in are very cosy and warm, we were really happy and enjoy our stay at Belconnen Way. Near supermarket and restaurants, walking distance
Stayed here as a base to see all the attractions Canberra has to offer, great location, so close and easy to find. Staff helpful, place clean, great tv channel slection if weather is bad. Had an awesome time.
this is one of the best hotel i had stayed in this trip, first i was worried a little coz it's a motel, but when i saw the place, i totally changed my mind. the room is super clean, it has microwave, it has club, and cafe adjacent to the hotel, which is a part of their business. plus the location is great, it is located in an area called dickson, it looks to me like a c...
My stay was fine. Hotel is clean comfortable and relatively modern. Has all the business traveller needs. However, its based in Greenway which is away from the main CBD of Canberra in Civic and the Parliamentary circle. If this doesn't bother you or you have business on the south side of town, then its ideal.

Perfect place to stay to explore our many National monuments. The apartment was in a quiet residential block a 5 minute walk to Lonsdale St with many restaurants. Also in the Canberra Centre is the stop for the local Cultural Loop free tourist bus which takes you to t...
Beautifully appointed accommodation. Two comfortable bedrooms, one with an ensuite and an extra bathroom. My friend and I went to Floriade in Canberra and stayed overnight at Quest. The price is reasonable and it's right in CBD. $15 for parking at rear but we managed to get a car space at the free car park opposite the hotel so there's no issue. It was great! We could chill at the living room, great coffee provided, free bottle of wine, wonderful rooms, great bath tub with fancy toiletries. Good value for groups, would have used the kitchen if we had more time. We almost forgot to explore Canberra because we were happy to stay at 'home'. Will be back!
This appartment had a home away from home feel. A great size and had all the basic home like comforts. Great value for money. No reception or contact with anyone at check in. More of an air bnb which suited us fine. Staff easily contactable, clear and easy instructions for check in and out. Would stay again
There is only one thing you need to understand before booking at the Little National and that is the Bed setup. the Bed is huge and luxurious but slotted up against the window with access from only 1 side. If you know this and young/able enough to climb over your partner you will not find better value in a stylish, new Canberra hotel. The room is smallish but with all ...
Brassey Hotel was definitely one of the best hotels we've ever stayed in. What they lacked in facilities, they made up for in wonderful service. Apartment fantastic home from home
The hotel is close to the Canberra station (walking distance ~8-10mins) and commutation is very easy. The staff was very helpful, cooperative and polite. The room was great and so were the facilities including casting facility to watch in television. The parliament and war memorials are also close by - max 10-15mins drive one side, thus it was a bonus. You can find d...

We were very impressed with this experience. You are so well looked after throughout the whole time. You start off with an afternoon tea which is more of a "high tea", very high quality. Comfortable stay, unit close to most attractions, high security. I would have one suggestion, the quality of the mattress could improve. Than the apartment would be perfect. I would definately stay again.

There are some very good museums and galleries, and (we understand) usually an exhibition on somewhere.
I would HATE to see Canberra pull up the trees and put in trams. The city's busses are efficient, regular and friendly and cheap for exploring I love all the parks and green areas I had come from Sydney and Canberra's friendliness and slower pace was wonderful compared with brash, money-grabbing, busy, in parts ugly Sydney.
Walk around the Lake. Visit the National Museum of Australia - a must see. Great views from Mt Ainslie.
Lots of interesting museums, galleries and government buildings. Great for outdoor activities such as running and cycling.
Canberra is a beautiful city, easy to get around but it's good to have a car. We love the National Gallery and we were there for Floriade which is marvellous.
Canberra is a city with many things to do and see. Plan before you get there on what you like to see and do, there's lots.
The national capital where there is the Australian War Memorial, High Court of Australia, National Art Gallery, Questacon, Australian National University.
Obviously well designed city, easy to navigate around. Traffic not too heavy. Abundance of National treasures to visit.
Not a very charismatic place. Half of the town are bureaucrats the rest are foreign workers who bearely speak English.
Very orderly city. Easy to get around. The only reason why we left was the extreme cold during winter, and that's out of peoples' hands.
Well laid out city. Interesting political history at old parliament and new parliament house. War Memorial a must see.
Canberra reminded me of Yesterday Australia. I believe development is deliberately held back. This is reflected in all the eight level buildings everywhere you look.
Canberra is a quiet city with lots of nature, and a handful of shopping malls. Most of the attractions are spread out and would be advisable for tourist to hire a car to drive around.
We hated it and changed our travel plans and came home early. NOT a city for pedestrians. Poor signage for for tourists Designed for cars, not people
I loved Canberra, everyone told me that I would only need to spend 2 nights in Canberra. I ended up booking an extra night and would have still liked more time.
The city is very clean and spacious with wide streets and foot paths that are not crowded and the city is not fast paced, there is a lot to see and do in Canberra and I will bring overseas friends back here next year
VISITED PARLIAMENT HOUSE,WAR MEMORIAL,MUSEUMS, COCKINGTON AND BOTANICAL GARDENS. DROVE AROUND THE EMBASSY AND OTHER AREAS.
beautiful natural city, the people are nice and helpful, cost of parking is much cheaper than Sydney.
The city of circles. Most attractions lead to another although it is fairly obvious the city has been designed by public servants for public servants and little is left to chance.
Nice and clean city, quite different from other cities in Australia. It was a great experience to visit, would like to visit again to explore more museums and hidden sides of the city!
Canberra is one of those places that you have to take your children at some point in their lives. We saw Parliment House, the War Memorial, Questacon and the Mint.
Canberra is a very pleasant city to visit. It has lots of attractions to offer. Lots of restaurants and shopping to offer.
There is a plethora of things to see and do. Historical, cultural, educational and appealing to all ages.
It's a very clean city with plenty of restaurants, shopping & sight seeing activities. The best part of sight seeing is that it's mainly free.
Dirty, old and unmaintained. I believe to much money has been spent on the Government buildings. I can remember Canberra 30 years ago, it was the pride of Australia, now its a run down area.
Very clean and relaxed atmosphere. Has good roads and excellent public bus service. Convenient to get around both in and around the city.
Easy to navigate as it is well planned and you can see Black Mountain from all over, giving you something to aim at! I drive around but there are plenty of buses.
It is a good place to see wonderful science and commercial activities. It is not surprising to see federal politicians if you know who they are.
A great place to visit with kids for free activities. War memorial is two days worth alone even with small kids.
A delightful City to explore and indulge in the Culture Australia has to offer. Many Museums, Galleries and other activities that will have you returning to see more.
