Checked in as a solo traveler, newly moved to a Melbourne! I have stayed in other Bases before and it did not disappoint! :) Over my stay I met Isaac, Payhton, Ashley, Camilla, Nicholas and Rich on reception who couldn’t do enough for you! Everyone is SO friendly and welcoming :) Red Eye bar is such a great place to meet people also! Jack, Lydia and Rachel were amazing! Events every night that Celton and Rhys always made sure you knew about! Great stay, thanks to all the rest of the team I didn’t officially meet! <3

Cheap, clean, comfortable!”
I stayed in the private room with own toilet. The cleanliness was excellent! everything in my room was clean and sufficient. Location was only ok, because its a little out of town, but only a 3 minute walk to the tram stop! However, its cheap! so it made up a lot for the location. The hostel has a bar with a lot of events throughout the week. Although I did not have a chance to participate, it looks really fun and I would have loved to participate! It made the whole atmosphere super comfortable and fun! The entrance to the hostel is a tiny bit hidden, and I was a little lost maybe due to my jet lag, so do check out good street view or pictures of the front so that you wont miss it!

Great location”
Had a wedding to attend at St Kilda beach and Base was a 10 min walk away. Also a minute walk to Acland street and all the cafes and restaurants. The room I was in can be a little noisy at night, but that's to be expected at a hostel. Staff were super awesome and friendly. Great place overall and would stay again.

Lost ring”
My wife and I stayed for a night here. Staff was helpful the whole time we were there. On the day we checked out, I heard some metal fell on the floor but I did not realize what it was and we were in a hurry to start our great ocean road journey. So we left. While driving I realize the metal was my ring. I immediately email base backpackers fearing the worst. They promptly replied but could not find it. But they continued looking for it and by dinner time , they told me they found my wedding ring! I am so grateful for their help. Otherwise the rest of the trip would have been ruined. Thank you to all who have helped :)

Close to bus stops/train and beach. If you don't like partying then probably stay away, but than again why are you in Australia if you don't wanna party. Had a hell of a time

Felt comfortable with the staff they make you feel welcome and get to know you. Isaac you are the best! Only thing is our room smelt really bad and the carpets smelt like someone had puked on them and it was never cleaned. The cleaners could do a better job, or maybe spray the rooms and especially with the kitchen! Love the different events they do everyday. Love the location

While the rooms are very clean, the shared spaces, especially the kitchen could have been better. They have lots of activities every night, so if that's what you're after it's great. I booked a double twin room with ensuite bathroom for myself and it was nice. The bed has to be one of the best I've encountered in the hostel/budget hotel category. No TV in room, but to be honest I was mostly out exploring Melbourne every day that I didn't miss it at all. St Kilda is a great location IMHO, if you want a place not too far away from CDB, near the beach and in an eclectic neighborhood. I simply love the location! There's two large-ish supermarkets (Coles & Woolies) within walking distance so that's very convenient as well. All in all, I would stay in this hostel again. :-)
