My rating for Areca Hotel is 4+. I feel the hotel is great value for the money. It is centrally located so you can reach many famous eateries within 12 minutes of Grab. Prangin Mall & Komtar Tower is just a short 5 min walk back of hotel. I enjoyed my stay and will definitely book again with the hotel when I visit Penang again. See below for more details. I booked a 5 day/4 nite stay with Areca Hotel for my first time visiting Penang with parents at end of Feb 2023. I booked a Family Suite for parents and a Garden Room for myself. Was going to book the Heritage Room for myself but it was all booked. But it turned out that the Garden Room was plenty big for me and I'm six-feet four tall. I am a light sleeper so I emailed ahead to request a quieter section for both rooms. My Garden Room stay was enjoyable and was quiet for most of my stay, aside from a couple of mornings where I was woken up by a family of very disrespectful patrons in the common area. Although my family did enjoy their Family Suite, they did mention the daily prayer on their side. FYI, our rooms were on opposite sides with the Family Suite facing the Lobby area and my Garden Room facing back side street. The hotel has a lot of charm and my mom enjoyed the various Chinese artifacts displayed through out the hotel. The staffs was very friendly and responsive to my request, whether for directions or to replenish toiletries on short notice. The room was equipped with all essentials like water heater, hair dryer, and fridge. Restroom was clean and had no sign of bugs or molds. Most of all the AC was strong and quiet in my room. Furthermore, the AC in the common area and lobby was strong enough that I never felt hot. It was just right. And I'm the type that despise the humid & hot weather. TLDR: Super spacious and comfortable room. Family suite is best for families rather than groups of friends. Friendly staff. Great central location in Georgetown. The family suite was huge, like you could probably do a hundred metre dash in there, or add another 7 single beds to fill up the floor space. The room cools down real quick with the help of fans. No issue with noises from outside because we were on the second floor, though one of the aircons was really noisy. The only part that I thought was uncomfortable was the dim lighting. Not enough light to do makeup. The lighting is ok for night time. But if you open the curtains in the day, the bit of daylight feels so stark against the dim lighting indoors that it feels very glaring. We had to keep the curtains closed the whole day. We probably should've tried opening up the windows or something. Watch out for the steps. Overall, the room layout was a little weird. The toilet and shower is in one area. Next to it is the sink/wardrobe/pantry area, separated by a louvered door with wide enough gaps to see through. You could do your business, and whoever is brushing their teeth can see you in the mirror's reflection. :D So this room is best for families rather than friends lol. The wardrobe area behind the sink is so wide you could fit 3-4 towels on it to dry. Lots of space for luggage. Next to the sink is the pantry area. All these areas are in one room by itself. You can shut the door for privacy, but that means no access to the pantry for whoever is outside. Also, there are two aircons in the room. One is situated inside the sink/wardrobe/pantry room. So if the door is closed, you're only getting one aircon's worth outside. So best to keep the door wide open when no one needs the privacy. The walls don't go all the way to the ceiling, but cold air sinks. There are also no USB ports, so bring your own adaptors, though you could probably request from the staff. No laundry bags too. The best part of the room... the beds. So comfy and smell so nice. The pillows were awesome. There's a lift that services all three floors, and there are very nice sitting areas to lounge and chat with friends. I'm not sure I'd recommend the breakfast or even the complimentary tea, because... you're in Penang... just go out and eat. There's a roti bakar/canai place right next to the hotel that opens at 6am. Great location in Georgetown, 5-10min grab ride to anywhere. Drivers are really friendly and will recommend you food/places. Overall, this hotel was really great. None of the inconveniences were that inconvenient and I would love to stay here again. Staff were all super helpful and friendly, and they responded really fast to requests. Highly recommend!

Areca Hotel was reasonably priced and had a number of great amenities. The hotel had a lift, which was really convenient for getting around the building, and the water pressure in the bathroom was excellent, making for a refreshing shower experience. One of the best things about this hotel was that they provided a complimentary tea break, which was a nice touch and really added to the overall experience. It was great to be able to sit down and enjoy a cup of tea and a snack after a long day of exploring the nearby attractions. Speaking of the attractions, the location of this hotel couldn't be beat. It was within walking distance of all the major sights and landmarks, which made it really easy to get around and see everything we wanted to see. However, I will say that the limited parking availability was a bit of a downside. If you're planning to drive to the hotel, you may need to be prepared to park some distance away and walk to the hotel. That being said, it's a small inconvenience for all the other great things this hotel has to offer. Overall, I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a comfortable, affordable place to stay with great amenities and a fantastic location.

Stayed in heritage room for 5 nights. Everyone at Areca is so friendly and helpful. Areca hotel also has many thoughtful hospitality that you don’t see in many other hotels, such as complimentary afternoon tea, fresh ice cold water at the reception area, free one load of washing (I think only if you stayed over 5nights) and complimentary coffees. They really take care of their guests! Heritage room was so big and comfortable. A little noisy during the day from outside traffic but surprisingly pretty quiet at night! We were worried about noise after reading some reviews but we didn’t have issue. We have moved a room as first room didn’t have a closet to hang my clothes as closed couldn’t be unlocked. There was some noticeable difference between first room and second. Second being a lot nicer (ie shower screen vs shower curtain, furnitures were lot nicer too) I really recommend management of Areca to invest a bit to upgrade the first room as I probably won’t be fully happy with the first one with price. Saying that everyone has their own view and this is just my review. Overall, great hospitality and very convenient location! I would recommend this hotel to anyone and I’d definitely stay again! Hotel is situated in a great location close to major attractions and street stalls. Staff are very friendly and always willing to help. The family suite can fit in 4 adults comfortably and the room is very clean. We will definitely stay here again when visiting Penang.
